I saw the Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird twice in the Gambia. Firstly at Abuko Woods, then again at Sandele Lodge, feeding on an African Mistletoe.

If you happen to stay at this lodge near Kartong, which is not particularly well set out for birds, then look for the African Mistletoe (it has a sign) beside a path, because the Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird feeds on mistletoe, and several other birds seem to be attracted by mistletoe, which was flowering in early March.More photos...

Vieillot’s Barbet is a good bird to see in the Gambia. Ansu, our guide, looked for one, and found it, at a Wasu Stone Circle up river. Then I saw one again in a fig tree in Tujereng Woods.
