Bird name: Long Tailed Silky Flycatcher
Latin: Ptilogonys caudatus
Other:
Family: Ptilogonatidae • Silky Flycatchers
Range: Mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama

The Long-tailed Silky Flycatcher was relatively easy to spot near habitations in the Chiriqui highlands, but generally kept its distance, settling in the top branches of tall trees. They were always in pairs, the male having a greyer chest.

The Long-tailed Silky Flycatcher is instantly recognisable by its crest and long tail. Now placed in a small family of its own.

Bird name: Black and Yellow Phainoptila
Latin: Phainoptila melanoxantha
Other: Black-and-yellow Silky-Flycatcher
Family: TurdidaeThrushes
Range: Mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama

The more common name for the Black-and-yellow Phainoptila was Black-and-yellow Silky-Flycatcher but Phainoptila is the name adopted by the IOC.

I only saw this one Black-and-yellow Phainoptila in Chiriqui, so considerably less numerous that its relative the Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher.
