Northern Tufted Flycatcher

Northern Tufted Flycatcher - Mitrephanes phaeocercus
Copyright: monacoeye • Do not copy without permission • Chiriqui & El Valle May 2010

Bird name: Northern Tufted Flycatcher
Latin: Mitrephanes phaeocercus
Other:
Family: Tyrannidae • Tyrant Flycatchers
Range: Mexico to Ecuador, highlands

I saw these Northern Tufted Flycatchers in Panama in the Chiriqui highlands and in Valle de Anton in Panama. One deep in the forest, the other in open country above the path.

The El Valle bird seemed yellower and the Chiriqui bird more pinkish. The main identifying feature for this small flycatcher is its prominent raised tuft.
